The City of Marceline Electric Department is dedicated to providing safe, reliable power and the best service to our community at all times.  We are constantly maintaining and improving our power lines to prevent disruptions in service and reduce outages from acts of nature.  A complete upgrade of the entire system to the more dependable 13,800kv is in progress as part of a long term plan.

The City receives electricity from Ameren through City owned transmission lines at 69,000 volts.  At our substation, the voltage is reduced for distribution to 13,800 volts for approximately 2/3 of our customers and the other 1/3 is currently reduced to 2400 volts.  The distribution system sends power to our customers throughout the City and surrounding areas which is eventually reduced to the required voltages by transformers located near each home or business.

Tree trimming is another very important aspect of the Electric Department that is essential in providing dependable electric service with few interruptions.  Since our trimming program started in 2010, the number of after-hours call outs was reduced by approximately 50% in 2011.  The next year reflected an additional 50% drop, stressing the importance of maintaining adequate clearance between power lines and trees.

We proudly serve our community and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  If during normal business hours, you notice any low or downed power lines, street lights out, tree limbs interfering with power lines, or experience a power outage please call Utility Services, located at Marceline City Hall at (660) 376-3528.

If you have an after hour utility related emergency you can contact the Marceline Police Department at (660) 376-3556.
