First City License Plates - 1931,1932, and 1933

On April 19, 2016,a 1931 Marceline License Plate to the City of Marceline as a gift from Terry Hammer through the Missouri Cites Project Initiative.  Mr. Hammer then subsequently gave 1932 and 1933 License plates to the City of Marceline as well through the Missouri Cities Project Initiative.

These are the earliest known license plates of their kind for the City of Marceline.  They can be seen at Marceline City Hall.  During this time period, with the increasing number of motor vehicles on the roads across the country, cities like Marceline required owners of motor vehicles to pay a tax and display City Resident license plates on their vehicles.  Research is  ongoing to find when these license plates where implemented.
